The suppression of the slave trade from Africa resulted in the production of documentation, including sketches, paintings, prints, lithographs, and photography. The global collection illustrates "Liberated Africans" through various stages of the judicial process from the moment of capture or purchase to "liberatation," as well as their registration, settlements, or other representations of humanitarian propaganda. They either depict the horrors of chattel slavery and misrepresentations of improved treatment during state-imposed indentures. The Image Gallery currently contains a couple dozen items, but is expanding after more imagery was identified during the global survey. Currently, the aim is to integrate, expand, and link this collection into SlaveryImages.org, while providing improved metadata according to best practices using DublinCore standards.
